PAULINA DOMAGALSKA
SCULPTURE
01 about
A graduate of the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.
She gained professional experience in the field of sculpture working under the supervision of the world-famous artist Jerzy Kędziora, the author of balancing sculptures.
A co-founder of the artistic and design project Papersculpture.
Her sculptures are mainly depictions of animals in the context of relations with humans.
Using the depictions of animals, she analyzes human nature. She tells about social attitudes, behaviours and traits. About our domination as a species, constant crossing of borders, ethics, synanthropization. The influence of genetic and technological engineering on evolution. I want to trigger a reflection on the joint interspecies future. Because nothing exists independently. Our existence depends on the state of the environment and the condition of other species.

"Triples BGI"
Epoxy resin technique
Triples BGI - shows three cloned, genetically modified dogs. The BGI abbreviation (Beijing Genomics Institute) is a gene sequencing laboratory in China. The aim of the work is to reflect on the influence of man on the processes of evolution and the ethics of genetic experiments. The unreal form of dogs expresses my concern about synthetic biology in the hands of our species.
"Gorillas" "Paw"
Epoxy resin technique
Before starting work I often try to gain an insight into the nature of a given animal. I enter a state of contemplation, watch films, photos, I gain knowledge about a given species.
The Gorilla and Paw work is a blunt representation of our relations.
"SAMA" - white
technique - epoxy resin
Depicting a cat in an unfettered pose.
Multiplied cats can be positioned in any way, creating unique compositions.
The SENSE composition - technique - epoxy resin.
It is a subjective reflection on the essence of motherhood.
It contains two cat mothers with five cubs.
Cats, through genetic interference, differ more and more from their original appearance.
They are blind and terrified. The fear of mothers is caused by fear for their offspring. Interference with evolution that affects subsequent generations is unpredictable, and changes can go beyond sensory perception.
"Rats" -
Paper and epoxy resin technique
The Rats installation is a reference to the painting by Raphael. It depicts frightened and worried lab rats without hair in a transfiguration scene. In this case, the transfiguration consists in the master taking a spiritual form, here the deliverer.
